Changing environment

Over the last 3-4 years, our world and environment have changed a lot. Each of us has experienced various emotions that accompanied us, whether during the pandemic, the war taking place just beyond our border or in the new reality regarding remote work and changes in the law that will take place in 2023. This amount of information that is still present in our environment can have very serious effects on our psyche and in our everyday functioning. Each of us needs different support in this area.
Nowadays, every company knows that employing women and equalizing their opportunities in the labor market is a basic obligation, not the implementation of the idea of diversity and inclusion. Research shows that large companies emphasize having a diversity management strategy and as many as 98% of them have documents related to diversity management1. At Motorola, we are lucky that such documents are not only slogans, but also real values of our company, which for years has been emphasizing how important an inclusive organizational culture is for it, in which we focus on the belonging and diversity of our employees. Our organization awards its employees the CEO Award every year for activities related to inclusion and diversity, which are key in the organization and operations of the company.
It is our employees who create our diversity
At Motorola, the example comes from above – we have the full support of the Company’s President and all branch directors around the world, who speak loudly about how important it is to implement our values every day and listen to the needs of employees. These are excellent foundations for our employees to have a sense of security and agency, because they are the ones who create our diversity-related activities and create them themselves. In the Polish company, we operate in various areas that create our culture. For many years, we have been able to watch the development of our internal organizations created by employees themselves: Women Business Council, Young Professionals Group, People with Disabilities and LGBT+ Council. Many of the activities were created bottom-up and each group represents a different area of activity in which, as an employer, we can participate.
The youngest of our groups is the Wellbeing group, established in 2021, which aims to take care of employees and offer them a variety of support tailored to them. We have been working for many months to create a diverse program addressed to our employees to respond to their needs. The level of satisfaction of our employees with the program we offered them was 78% in 2022, and with this program in 2022 we received a distinction in the ‘Best of Wellbeing 2021’ competition organized by the Wellbeing Institute. It was an incredible recognition of our activities and opened up new spaces for us and our employees to implement ideas. We have been working on mental health initiatives within the company for almost 3 years; employees can use professional medical services, psychological services, fully anonymous telephone or personal support.
We organize about 70-80 events a year related to mental and physical health, support for parents, singles and the elderly. Employees have access to knowledge at any time, but they are also often the initiators of all actions. Recently, we have had a need to expand the topics related to neurodiversity – our employees came to us with this topic, and we try to help and guide them in this idea as far as possible. We are open to all suggestions from our employees, because they are the ones who create our company and it is thanks to them that we can develop. We conduct an open dialogue with employees, giving them the opportunity to create our reality and open new paths that we would not discover without them. What distinguishes us is certainly the work atmosphere, which is a very highly rated factor in the affiliation of employees to our company (approx. 87% of employees declare the atmosphere in the company as a key element in belonging to the company). In such an environment and in such an atmosphere we can do anything.
